There is no reason for a shower head with Teflon tape to be so tight it takes a wrench and almost loosens the stem from the wall in the process. As this showerhead was scuffed up, I'm begging you fellow bottoms, stop. Just hand tighten it and give it the tiniest nudge with the wrench if it leaks.
@robert Bless you not thinking I have a canvas bag and camping microfiber towel packed with an adjustable wrench, diverter, hose, and then a shutoff valve+nozzle on the end for travel.
@robert Also shout out for the plastic tip. THAT I did not know but I do carry in said bag extra washers because I've learned the washer does most of the work here.
Aside from the war crime of attacking survivors of a shipwreck, we must now add the war crime of perfidy.
Perfidy is considered a serious crime in war because, among other things, using civilian cover for offensive missions casts suspicion on all civilians in the theatre, putting non-combatants at risk.
@mattblaze what happens when a gov is run by cosplayers and have fired the people who were guardrails. They’ve been playing too many video games, no idea about actual laws. :(
@mattblaze It's a heinous crime, but I also can't get over how stupid it is. All of that for a fishing boat?
The irony is that the only person the Pentagon is trying to hold to account here is the retired astronaut and war hero who said that illegal orders like this shouldn't be followed.
@mattblaze Not sure if this technically qualifies as perfidy because that might apply only to warfare (the possibly erroneous impression I got from the Wikipedia page). While I wouldn't want low level people punished because they couldn't afford to have a lawyer on retainer, people higher in the chain of command are a different story. Let's have a full investigation, particularly of Hegseth, and forward all the evidence to the ICC. A Trump pardon doesn't apply outside the U.S.
If it's not war, it can't be perfidy.
Murder, straight up then.
So, ignorance of perfidy may be his best defense.
Didn't our Fox Weekend genius fire all the the top lawyers at Defense?
@mattblaze as if mobsters cared about civillians, look at what Russian criminals do. They could hit some 5 storey with a ballistic missiles because of crappy CEP and claim there was a NATO base. It was a week ago in my city
@mattblaze I think the jet was a Boeing P-8 Poseidon. Their normal colour is light enough that many people could mistake it for an airliner.
@mattblaze We already know they don’t like to play by the rules.
@TomDB I know they don’t care. The reason to call out their lawlessness isn’t because I think they care. It’s because I think YOU should care.
Where is this spin coming from that any of these were war crimes?
Surely all these strikes were simply mass murders?
-There was no war going on
-The boats were civilian
-The people on the boats were civilian
-They were in international waters
-They presented no threat to anyone
-There has been no evidence presented against any of the murdered people
-All of the survivors who were arrested by US forces were quickly released without charge (strongly suggesting no sealed evidence)
...why are people focusing just on potential "war crimes" by Hegseth?
*ALL* of these strikes were murders by Trump, he ordered all of them.
@FediThing That’s the problem for the administration here. If this was a military conflict, they violated the laws of war. If it wasn’t, it violated international law in other ways. Either way, it was criminal.
The article I linked to explains this in some detail.
@mattblaze I think the main problem is the administration does not care to obey the law - in fact they scorn it - and there is no effective mechanism holding them to account. They commit heinous crimes with impunity.
Murder ✅
Perfidy ✅
Trump: 🤷
@m0rpk @FediThing For the nth time, when someone replies with some variation on “it doesn’t matter because they don’t care”: I know they don’t care. The reason to call out their lawlessness isn’t because I think they care. It’s because I think YOU should care.
@mattblaze @m0rpk @FediThing And it will take people of conscience standing up against this to convince Congress to put a stop to it, and showing up to remove people who won't in the coming mid-terms.
"You replied that it doesn't matter because they don't care (or words to that effect)"
I take it from your exasperation that you've seen many replies of that nature. I'm sorry mine came across to you in that way. However, I did not mean that it doesn't matter.
Of course it matters.
I wanted to say that I think the lack of accountability is the main problem i.e. to agree with you that we should care.
@mattblaze
"But he noted that the United States considers perfidy to be a crime in noninternational armed conflicts: It charged a Guantánamo detainee before a military commission with that offense over Al Qaeda’s 2000 attack on the U.S.S. Cole, in which militants in a small boat floated a hidden bomb up to the side of the warship while waving in a friendly manner."
we all know it's a crime
we've all witnessed the brag & boast of the criminals
where are those who will enforce the law against those who do the crime?
even when a brave prosecutor & jury do the right thing, what good is all that when 1 cowardly judge can say OK but he's still allowed to be POTUS & carry on with his frauds!
the dinosaurs lasted hundreds of millions of years & had to be taken out by a bolt from outer space, humanity will end itself in <1% of that time
"You know what I was thinking about? If Mary Tyler Moore married and then divorced Steven Tyler, then married and divorced Michael Moore, then got into a three-way lesbian marriage with Demi Moore and Mandy Moore, would she go by the name Mary Tyler Moore Tyler Moore Moore Moore? Hm."
This always works.
@lorenzofb @paul_ipv6 It's not a ponzi scheme, it's MLM!
actual door to door at my home this week:
me, answering door: "what are you selling?"
sales critter: "i'm not selling anything. i work for an advertising firm that would like to use your yard for marketing purposes."
narrator: "sure sounds like selling something..."
In nearly 15 years of living here, I have only ever had ONE single individual have such a license. (Because he did, I listened to his spiel and considered his wares. Asking for their solicitor's license is my first question: if they don't have it, I tell them goodbye and inform them of their illegal actions.)

Reading Game Changers I see the author uses "come" as in "he shot his come all over", and I keep stumbling on this because I am used ot it being "cum".
Most gay men I talk to also use "cum", so not sure if straight people use "come"?

@motoridersd I ruin the math, but I'm queer and fine with either. Though neither is my go to term.
@targrus it's impossible to catch all permutations, and it's ok to not have an answer.
What do you use?
@motoridersd I'm very much a "load" guy in practice I suppose.
@targrus this is a good point! I use load and cum somewhat equally, but also depends on the context. If I was writing stories about gay sex I would use both.
@motoridersd variety is the spice~
@motoridersd @targrus
I use them both but for distinct purposes.
The act of ejaculating: "cumming", "to cum"
Ejaculate: "cum"
A discrete quantity of ejaculate or the result of the act of ejaculating: "load"
@motoridersd that might be a "corrector" edition as cum is non standard spelling and not the actual author spelling. I have seen the "cum" spelling in straight contexts.
@motoridersd I was at an impressionable age when the Quiet Riot cover of Cum on Feel The Noize was released.
@motoridersd I am generally not fussed about spelling mistakes, but for some reason this has managed to get me irritated 😅 Who uses "Come" in this context? Where's the editor?
@HisNameIsOx this is how the author of the books Heated Rivalry is based on writes it every time
(I think this is because the expression derives from “to come” as a synonym for “to arrive”, as in “arriving at or reaching orgasm”, and men find changing the word itself moves the act into being something new and all its own. At least, that’s what I want to believe.)
@motoridersd I feel like "come" is an older spelling, and "cum" has become popular within my lifetime 🤷
When I read this article about Canadians boycotting American https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/canada-us-bourbon-popularity-9.7028355 bourbon what surprised me was how little other countries are also boycotting it. Come on EU, you can do better at boycotting American stuff.
@robert @kim_harding You'll note the graph is distilled spirits. The article is about bourbon, but the boycott in Canada is all American alcohol. Bourbon is particularly important to boycott due to it being made in Maga states, but obviously the EU is still buying lots of American spirits whatever they may be.
What team are you? No spoilers in the comments ! I don't like this movie so far

@thickurt I require a neither because the Werewolves are not Werewolf enough. Like, did none of these people watch Underworld. Now THOSE are Werewolves.
@thickurt
I'm Team Bella's dad. 😅
@naughtySoskopp so far no one on this show has given me even a "friend" boner
@thickurt of course the gays are team Jacob. The het women are team Edward. If I owned a polling company I would definitely resolve this question.
@thickurt They're both shitty people in their own way, but I like werewolves better than vampires.
@wheeljack and Bella is so fucking dumb and helpless ???? What is happening
@thickurt But Anna Kedrick is in it, and that almost makes it worth it. (I'd much rather watch Pitch Perfect, tho)
@thickurt
Everything about Edward makes my skin crawl -except- him being a vampire. I kept wanting to tell at bella for the love of jebus get some agency.
Jacob is whatever but at least not a walking red flag with red sparklers and a little card he has to read the neighbors.
@thickurt Used to be team Jacob, but after rewatching the first movie with some friends a couple years ago, I'm team "Bella should take some time off from dating and maybe try some hobbies or something."
@thickurt Team Jacob, because I miss my long hair and I'd rather have a warm body than porcelain to sleep next to. Even if the former has a slight "wet dog" smell. 😂
I once listened to a podcast about a corpse found frozen in Finland and the investigation to try and find out who she was
Anyone got anything like that to share for me to listen to?! I'm bad at podcasts. I have YouTube music if that matters. #podcast
@thickurt Slightly more enraging, but Uncover: The Village (Season 1) was a worthy listen.
It was a good reminder that our own community will do more to take care of us than the authorities (duh) and that threats to us still fall hardest on the most marginalized in our communities/families.
Wanted: Advice from CS teachers
When teaching a group of students new to coding I've noticed that my students who are normally very good about not calling out during class will shout "it's not working!" the moment their code hits an error and fails to run. They want me to fix it right away. This makes for too many interruptions since I'm easy to nerd snipe in this way.
I think I need to let them know that fixing errors that keep the code from running is literally what I'm trying to teach.

Borowitz Report 1/9/25
I'm already dreading watching the US Traitors because they annoy me with the ad breaks and the little recap after every break. Coming from the UK seasons is jarring
@motoridersd it was bad enough last time that I just opted to not watch it. It sucked anyway and the ad breaks were the moldy bread on the shit sandwich.
I have feelings about that production.
@James yeah it's really bad and annoying. I might not watch it all. I also have very little interest in a lot of these D list "celebrities"
@motoridersd @James at least on iPlayer we get all that edited out. But I stopped watching after the first series. Alan’s “character” annoyed me and all the reality TV contestants were just awful and hateful.
@deadliftbear @James yeah I'm not a fan of the reality TV contestants. It makes that version very toxic
@motoridersd @deadliftbear toxic is the right word. It made me feel gross watching it.
@motoridersd @James @deadliftbear it rubs me the wrong way that these "celebrities" aren't playing for charity. Like, housewives are famous solely because they're rich and they're pretending like they need the prize money?
@pkboots @James @deadliftbear that's a great point! Is there a US TV show where celebrities play for a charity? There must be but it's probably rare
@deadliftbear @motoridersd @James Celebrity Jeopardy does. Each contestant talks about what their charity means to them during the interview portion. I'm not sure I can come up with another off the top of my head, haha.
@pkboots @deadliftbear @James haha I figured there must be some but it seems more rare than what I often see in the UK
I have instagramed my under-sink cabinet. Because not only cable management matters.
In case you're looking for further inspiration, here's my sweetheart's handiwork in our kitchen (several of our drawers have similar treatment)
A surprisingly wonderful life-improvement
@gumnos might have been great fun to cut the silhouettes in the foam. But that’s indeed a good idea for the messy drawer 😆
@joel most notably, it makes it dead-simple to find things without looking, know what's currently missing (in the dishwasher) at a glance, and prevents the classic "ugh, can't open the drawer because the potato-masher got turned sideways" frustration
@joel I am trying very hard not to say you over-think your under-sink cabinet, in a French accent of course.
Hmm, I guess the battery on my main UPS is finally dead. I thought I bought it recently, but it's 5 years old now and I guess that's about the life span of these batteries
@robert I was looking at that. An official replacement is still less than a new one of the same model, or less than what I paid for it originally, but still like 60% of the cost. A generic replacement is more like 40%

I need a 9v 1a DC power adapter for my label printer.
Have I achieved Nerdvana? Do I already have such a power supply?
apparently I've been saving DC power supplies for many years. Decades. Surely I already own the one I need!
4.5v, 4.5v, 24v... surely one of these is 9v!
Narrator: in fact, that bucket contained exactly zero 9v1a adapters. Learn from his mistake.
@mwl Sir, please allow me the pleasure of introducing you to the existence of "USB-PD trigger cables" which will negotiate for a specific voltage from a USB-PD power supply and pass the result downstream through a barrel plug, within the range of voltages supported by USB-PD/USB-PPS.
E.g. here is a 1.2m USB-C PD to 9V 5.5mm cable that can handle up to 5A, assuming source and target can too: https://www.adafruit.com/product/5449
And: https://www.adafruit.com/product/5501 (with a programmable voltage request target)
@mwl A higher level of Nerdvana would involve custom labeling on everything in the bin with easy to read voltage/size/polarity and so on.
@mwl reminded me of your thread when this crossed my feed today
@gumnos @mwl I dread to think how many adapters have gone into the landfill. I’d work on projects that would use Ethernet to fiber media converters, but most of them went into a duel power supply rack, which meant that adapters that came with each individual converter wasn’t used. I couldn’t throw them out into my employer’s ewaste bin, because the customer “bought” them, so they shipped with the project and I’m sure just went into the general trash
I wish I could get into GNOME. I feel like everyone is so cool and awesome bucking the trend and writing cute little things but OH MY GOD can I just have decent scaling, multi monitor support, and a proper fucking dock without extensions that break every year for an unspecified time?
@dkub Ya I switched back to KDE after Gnome 3 released (I'd used KDE 3 and left after the KDE 4 release). Gnome just doesn't let me do the things I want
(I used KDE in the late 90s, Gnome before Mate, WM when it was practical, and CDE on Sun thin clients ... looking at the current state of technology—and seeing as she is otherwise deeply entrenched into the Apple ecosystem—there really isn't another better choice.)
@robert There are things in GNOME I like just because I like being an edge lord neck beard. Lol.
The truth is: enshittification has reached from Windows, the "cloud", desktop Linux, and macOS ... nowhere is safe!
@robert Honestly, I like Fedora because it lives in-between Ubuntu/Debian's "lags behind upstream so long each new release is pure hell to upgrade" and Arch's bleeding edge build your own distro from scratch stuff. But yeah, all the Atomics and NixOS are ... blergh.
I loved the idea of atomic builds, but reality got in the way. So, I'm a Fedora man now to simplify servers and clients across 4 different households.
@dkub
I have never used gnome but the seething anger from people who want the most minimal accessibility stuff I hear has been... something. Kinda pushed me away from trying it.
Currently doing the extremely low effort mint thing on a laptop which is almost comically trivial. I keep waiting for the other shoe.

Video of the DIY coffee roaster.
i'm getting big "macgyver needs a caffeine fix" vibes from this project. :)
@paul_ipv6 @ai6yr That's my take on the situation. I like my caffeine even more than the next geek and that's saying something.
Folk, Cowboy Coffee is "instant" and can shock your system.
@elfin @paul_ipv6 @ai6yr …and I thought Andrew Tridgell was dedicated to the coffee cause…
https://ctdb.samba.org/~tridge/talks/coffee-LCA-2011.pdf (can't find the accompanying video… but I do remember the smell of coffee wafting through one of the lecture theatres)
@stuartl @elfin @paul_ipv6 HAHAHAHA! I could build an Arduino-powered coffee roaster, for sure. (not that I would necessarily).
@ai6yr @stuartl @paul_ipv6 Darnit. There's no good photo.
Zoka's Coffee in Kirkland, WA has he neatest brew system ... it's Monster Movie Classic chemistry-ware.
I'll find a decent photo.
They also make a "Toddy" ... it's cold brew and after two of them with @juliewebgirl I'm all, Let's Go To Seattle! I'll Swim Lake Washington and meet you there. Dangerous those, highly recommend.
@elfin @ai6yr @stuartl @paul_ipv6 @juliewebgirl Toddy is strong and smooth. Love it for iced coffee. I use a steel screen filter sized for a gallon jar, fill it with grounds, top the jar with water, let it sit over night. Best way to do coffee during the dog days.
@jhavok @elfin @ai6yr @stuartl @juliewebgirl
i like cold brew in the summer. freeze a bit of coffee as iced cubes, put in some cold brew for a good iced coffee. i was doing double strength cold brew and regular ice cubes but getting coffee/water ratio right was tricky.
@paul_ipv6 @jhavok @elfin @ai6yr @stuartl
Not sure how to convert espresso to cold brew, but hot espresso poured over ice cubes is the *perfect* ratio. I guess heating the cold brew would be blasphemous...
Next step: roasting coffee. A few unanswered questions at the moment, which I will ponder:
1. Is the heat/RF shielding from an Xbox 360 food safe... Appears to be just plain old aluminum, no coatings. Probably fine.
2. Same question on the bits of slight gold-tint TV antenna I used for the tilt wheel. Those TV antennas are a soft aluminum, as well, unclear to me what the gold/bronze tint on those is.
(both obviously can be replaced now that this works, mechanically -- can definitely replace the disk with a random piece of $1 or $2 pizza pan from the dollar store instead of an Xbox 360... and can find some non-colored metal for the angled part inside).
Looks like TV antennas are typically extruded 6061 aluminum. Aluminum is used as a cookware (used to be more common) and we do drink out of aluminum cans.... But apparently they don't suggest aluminum anymore due to some toxicity issues. Looks like I will go snag a cheap steel pizza pan from the dollar store and cut a new wheel, just because.
@ai6yr We boomers were raised with mom using those cheap aluminum Mirro pans. And inhaling leaded car exhaust and cigarette smoke from both parents. 🤷♀️
@paul_ipv6 @Nazani @ai6yr I was one of the kids who invented downhill longboard skateboarding in Northern California in the 1970s. I asked my mom if she would buy me a hockey helmet (because that's basically all they had). She said, "If you can afford to keep buying new wheels and trucks, you can afford to buy your own helmet." So, I continued riding the three miles of banked high speed turns on Old Tunnel Road helmetless.
Shrug. It isn't like my bbbrain suffered any... squirrel!
@erikosterholm @tsrats I got it, thanks to you and a bit of Kagi'ing. My /etc/dhcpd.conf showed /16 previously:
interface eth0
static ip_address=192.168.17.152/24
static routers=192.168.17.1
# static domain_name_servers=127.0.0.1 192.168.0.1
static ip6_address=fd8a:8d3d:c9a3:1:66c5:f132:10d1:295a
interface eth0
After modifying it to /24, I'm now able to SSH!!!!! 🎉
@erikosterholm @tsrats (Though I should probably make this use *actual* DHCP now that I think of it)
@caseyliss @erikosterholm yeah you should only have one DHCP server for each network unless they are able to act together, and since the unifi is running it, the pi should just be a client or have just a static ip
@caseyliss @erikosterholm sad i missed all the excitement while walking my dog but glad it's figured out!
@tsrats @erikosterholm Don't give up on me yet! The Synology is still broken, haha
#OTD in 1797, the Top Hat 🎩 was invented by John Hetherington. It took him over a week to pluck up the courage to wear it and when he did he was arrested 👇

The legal justification the WH gave us for attacking Venezuelan boats in int’l waters without Congressional approval was weak, and exposes the WH and military staff to domestic and international criminal prosecution. They have not even sought to justify strikes within Venezuela.
@SeanCasten What can I do at the local level to support Congressional opposition and legal action? I am horrified to wake up to news like this every day.
1. Their justification - dutifully repeated by every sycophantic member of the House GOP was that some drugs kill Americans so any international actor who sells or traffics drugs is engaged in war against America. You can drive a bus through that logic, as I noted last month https://x.com/seancasten/status/2001356117109248353?s=61
2. Before we left Washington last month we were given a classified briefing by Hegseth and Rubio about Venezuela that contained no classified information other than details on the location of certain military assets that were irrelevant to the question at hand.
3. That presentation was disrespectful of Congressional time and power at best. Diversionary at worst. Moreover, as my friend Senator Kim notes, they explicitly denied this was about regime change. They lied.
https://x.com/senatorandykim/status/2007399987596906501?s=61
5. I have no respect for Donald Trump. He diminishes everything he touches. But focusing on him right now is like being bitten by your neighbor’s unleashed, unfenced rabid dog and focusing on the dog. If we don’t hold his enablers to account we’re going to keep getting bit.
6. This doesn’t happen if McConnell didn’t press the Republican Senators to ignore January 6 and vote not to remove Trump from office in spite of House impeachment. If they had any shred of patriotism, Trump wouldn’t have been able to run again.
7. This doesn’t happen if SCOTUS doesn’t expressly grant a convicted felon and proven malignant narcissist with near complete immunity for any crimes he commits while President. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf/23-939_e2pg.pdf
8. This doesn’t happen if Republican Senators don’t confirm every grossly unqualified nominee - RFK Jr., Hegseth, Gabbard, etc. Those Senators knew their spines were being tested in those early days, because if they folded for them, they could be relied on to fold for anything.
9. This doesn’t happen if SCOTUS doesn’t decide that they have the unilateral power to amend the Constitution by gutting Section 3 of the 14th Amendment and allow someone who had engaged in insurrection against the United States to hold federal office. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf/23-719_19m2.pdf
10. And of course, this doesn’t happen if the House GOP took their oversight responsibilities seriously. From recissions to tariffs to Epstein, a House majority that allowed oversight would have checked an out of control executive long ago.
11. None of which is to ignore or tolerate the rabid dog. It is only to remind us all that we don’t have a monarchy; but we risk devolving into one if SCOTUS, Johnson and Thune continue to believe it is more important to cower before a felon than to stand up for the Constitution.
12. Congress will be back in session Tuesday. Johnson and Thune control what comes to the floor in both chambers. I hope they will focus on redeeming their character instead of voting on shower head regulations this week. https://x.com/seancasten/status/2007236088889524676?s=61
13. Because if they don’t fulfill their obligation to act as a check, we are left - per James Madison - depending on the virtue not of our rulers, but of those who choose them come November.
14. I hope we don’t have to wait that long, and will do everything in my power to ensure we don’t. But take some optimism in the fact that this White House fears that public virtue just as much as they fear the rule of law. We are better than this. /fin
@SeanCasten thank for this Congressman. In the last line you say "We are better than this." What keeps me up at night is my fear that we are not.
@SeanCasten Thanks for this thread. I’m curious, what actually is in your power to do here? What strategies are you trying? That’s what I’ve found most confounding about the present situation — there is an awful lot of energy out there to fight for our ideals but it’s not clear how to put it to good use.
@SeanCasten The American people elected this traitorous asshole in spite of all the clear and obvious evidence in their faces. Let’s not skip placing the blame squarely where it lies. We are reaping what we sowed.
@SeanCasten yet this is who we are until we start doing better. The only better time to act than now is yesterday.
@SeanCasten Thank you very much for correctly casting blame on the Republicans particularly in the SCOTUS and Congress who have enabled this.
And thank you very much for NOT being one of the many many many people going out of their way to blame the Democrats for this.
@SeanCasten they cannot. The ones that did received a call from the FBI that says there are "credible threats to them and their families' lives" and they changed their votes. Did we stand by them? No. The Mafia threatens one by one and controls people. We don't notice one missing then there's no one left to do anything.
Mitt Romney, Tillis, many judges were left alone and they bowed. That's how it works. The Democratic party doesn't have a counter strategy for this. It is not politics, yes. But you have to have a solution other than asking them to be crushed and made an example of to prove they have a spine.
@SeanCasten this needs to happen sooner! Session should be called immediately and this illegal act and what actions to take should be the only topic.
@SeanCasten There maybe some cowering, but this is also a power-play, reaching for the impossible brass ring that will reshape the country into “always getting it my way”.🤔
@SeanCasten EXACTLY-recognize it for what it is orchestrated, treason and insurrection on behalf of a major political party in the US.
@SeanCasten The tragedy unfolds, arguably the predestined conclusion do this orchestrated tragic failure of human judgment. Will this be the species destiny? Unknown at this point…
@SeanCasten Totally true, but they don't seem to give a sh$t. And holding them accountable, even after Trump's presidency seems unlikely. Very sad to witness all of this.
@SeanCasten and Cruz, Hawley, and Cotton are solidly behind Vance, some constitutional chicanery, and DJT Jr for '28 R candidacy.
Unpatriotic Idiots.
Congrats on your podcast
@SeanCasten EVERYTHING HE TOUCHES WITHERS AND DIES, but he’s he always made off with the loot. This is his genius. Such an inspiration for National DeathWish Leadership enabled by lil’racist MAGA and millionaire/billionaire Corpo enablers. Such a fine kettle of stinking fish will be the legacy of this nation.
@SeanCasten “They Lied,” should’ve been the epitaph of this admin in the first impeachment, but GOP Senators are all whores.

#TrumpIsAWarCriminal pardoned the former president of Honduras who's responsible for tons of cocaine on the US market.
@SeanCasten Mad emperor Donald bragged about Congress never stopping him from committing crimes. He tested the waters with bombing civilians on boats.. so now this shit.

It's not the first time Singer bought regime change, seized ships, and destabilized a nation to loot it.

I had not heard of the Minipizza Batfish until it was referenced in today's Independent cryptic crossword. So cute! https://www.tonywublog.com/journal/mini-pizza-batfish-halieutaea-stellata
Listen, nerds - if you're going to pick This Year to help people switch to Linux, I am begging you to do one thing: _Make sure your friend or parent or grandparent or whoever has backups_. Before you do _anything else_.
Make sure they have all their passwords and accounts somewhere. If you have the means to do so, take a drive image.
Be as sure as you can that they don't lose anything. Even if that's "where the icons are" and "my desktop background pic".
Agrivoltaics boost crop yields even when the solar panels aren’t generating power. New research from Canada shows that shading crops with elevated solar panels creates a cooler, wetter microclimate that can lift yields and improve performance across dozens of crops, from peppers to pasture grass. These benefits persist even when panels are offline, strengthening the case for agrivoltaics as dual-use infrastructure. no-one's quite sure what this Western Zhou art piece *is,* but so many people said "are you sure it's not a wifi router?" that the Anhui Museum installed a working wifi access point named "Western Zhou Router" in its display case.

Did you know?
As of December 24, 2025, the US Postal Service will no longer postmark items dropped off at the local post office.
Instead, items will be postmarked when they reach a regional processing facility, which could be days later.
Not good for items you depend on having postmarked on a certain date.
Three options:
1. Wait in line at a post office to get your item manually stamped
2. Pay for postage at the counter
3. Send your item certified/registered
