Powered off last VM of old network. Everything is now hosted on rented bare metal. Provided nothing breaks in the next two weeks, I'll delete that VM and migration will be done.

I'll keep one tiny VM as offsite DNS, occasional mail relay, and troubleshooting host.

💯 right on this.

I LOVE my LG 77” Oled. It’s a wonderful TV.

Only ever connected to AppleTV.

@daringfireball@mastodon.social To everyone poo-pooing this "revelation": do you have an LG TV and have you seen an ad? I have several LG TVs (some internet connected), and none have displayed any ads. Is your outrage justified, or just a byproduct of a quick response without the genuine facts?!

@robert I don't know because my beloved LG TV hasn't touched the internet in 4 years.

@daringfireball Same. LG Oled from 2019 (C9 65 inch). i plug an ethernet cable into it once per year to check for firmware updates. last one two months ago. other than that, Apple TV 4K rev2 is the only thing connected to the internet.

granted, i wonder those long until Apple gets tempted by that sweet sweet ad revenue.

@daringfireball Same (ATV + LG), but there is one problem -- LGs have a "Hey, LG" type listener, that try as I might cannot be disabled! And since it's offline, it produces an error ever time it accidentally gets triggered. POS

@MonaApp Hey there. When I type the apostrophe in Mona for Mac it says right single quotation mark when it is an apostrophe. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Please let me know.

@mabelinr I think this is a macOS issue and needs to be fixed by Apple.

@robert Thanks for your feedback. I really appreciate it. I’ve tried that and no go. It won’t fix my problem. I’m going to have to do a fresh reinstall of macOS. I am currently running macOS Monterey. But again, thanks for your help.

Smart sous vide cooker to start charging $2/month for 10-year-old companion app

@arstechnica As I responded elsewhere….this is really rather aggravating. I use the immersion cooker without the app….but their oven is far easier to use with the app. (The oven is great tech, allows you to sous vide without the bag. Pity I will not be using it after they do this, nor will I ever recommend their tech again.)

@arstechnica@mastodon.social While this is a crappy move, the impact is being blown out of proportion. The devices are still fully functional, unlike those from other brands that require an app for any functionality.

@arstechnica This step has been anticipated by every person who has ever read a sci-fi dystopia or cyberpunk novel. Which is why if the ad copy includes "app" or "register", I do not buy. A potentiometer dial control and mechanical shutoff timer is fine, thanks.

@fosskers@emacs.ch I used to, but so few applications were properly localized/internationalized. And trying to mix parts of a locale (esp. currency and number formatting), and lack of cohesion across operating systems, makes EO a no-go until the OS suppliers "do the right thing".
