No, I'm not going to be shilling this every day until 1 April.

I wanted to get it up so I could mention it in the Dear Abyss email announcement and the next sponsor mail.

I also want to get a "crowdfunding" mailing list set up, because not everything fits into the existing categories but I intend to crowdfund everything for the forseeable future.

@mwl you’re either writing “Both emacs and vi are fine, actually” or “Neither emacs nor vi are fine, actually”

I’m just trying to decide which I’d rather not see more.

@ckure@infosec.exchange @mwl Am I wrong in drawing the line that vi is the visual counterpart to ed? If so, the answer is always vi.
(And emacs is something else entirely unto itself.)

@robert Psst, don’t try to propose a correct answer. You’re only encouraging his malice badger.

Powered off last VM of old network. Everything is now hosted on rented bare metal. Provided nothing breaks in the next two weeks, I'll delete that VM and migration will be done.

I'll keep one tiny VM as offsite DNS, occasional mail relay, and troubleshooting host.

@daringfireball@mastodon.social To everyone poo-pooing this "revelation": do you have an LG TV and have you seen an ad? I have several LG TVs (some internet connected), and none have displayed any ads. Is your outrage justified, or just a byproduct of a quick response without the genuine facts?!

@robert I don't know because my beloved LG TV hasn't touched the internet in 4 years.

@daringfireball Same (ATV + LG), but there is one problem -- LGs have a "Hey, LG" type listener, that try as I might cannot be disabled! And since it's offline, it produces an error ever time it accidentally gets triggered. POS

@AlexanderMars@mastodon.social Well, if you ever wish to use Anova's app, you have a week to create an account and avoid the subscription fee. (Also, while their app is utter crap, there are a few recipes in it that are quite good; J. Kenji López-Alt of The Food Lab/Serious Eats did a collaboration with them several years ago.) Also, Anova's products tend to hit the sweet-spot of price, precision/accuracy, and performance.

@fosskers@emacs.ch I used to, but so few applications were properly localized/internationalized. And trying to mix parts of a locale (esp. currency and number formatting), and lack of cohesion across operating systems, makes EO a no-go until the OS suppliers "do the right thing".
