                Got my COVID and flu vaccines yesterday when I went in for my quarterly PreP labs and... Hoooboy. I don't normally have the side effects but I'm feeling rough.

                Lethargy kicked in 2 hours after getting the shots. But I still couldn't get to sleep until after 11. I woke up at 330am wide awake, mind racing, after a few wild dreams. Now, 3 hrs later and I'm feverish on the couch. I know it'll pass soon but damn. Still better than the flu or COVID.

                Damn, I've had this low fever for a solid day now. It's strange to feel so sick and gross but without any other symptoms -- just the fever/lethargy. 🤒

                But after a cup of chamomile tea, a nice hot shower, and now back to lying in bed, I at least feel a little more comfortable 😁

Earlier this week my Swedish Viking/Biker colleague joined a Teams call from his phone (his power was out), but he showed us his relaxation building on his property: a "mancave" gaming room, attached sauna with integrated speakers and a giant window that let's him see through to the TV, and a big hot tub behind, all facing a big open plot of farm land. But I suppose that's all mandatory if you're up near Umeå! Dark and snowy winters

It's when you have no response to a vaccine/booster that you should worry.

                      (This counterintuitive tidbit of knowledge was shared with me by a forensic pathologist who specializes in immunoresponses.)

                          Today is the day the Black Panthers were founded. As a disabled person, I'm going to remember how the coalition they built with Disabled people and their support during the 504 protests are the reason we even have the ADA today.

                          As a gay person, I'm going to remember how Huey Newton gave speeches to defend gay rights and how the Black Panther movement literally changed minds during the civil rights movement on how gay people were perceived.

                          And I'm going to think of the Black Panthers who NEVER CAME HOME to fight that fight for us and thank every power I know they made that sacrifice.

                            My spouse and I now have an interesting experiment going: which enhances your 5G reception more, getting a Covid shot and a flu shot in the same arm on the same day, or getting one in each arm? Confounding factors: we have different length arms, and I'm not sure which is a better match for 5G wavelengths. Also, I use a computer a lot more, which means that the extra microchips I've just been injected with will help me a lot more.

                                        shortly before dot-bomb, i was working for someone where we did a lot of consulting to "new" businesses.

                                        usual sequence:

                                        - we would be approached by the just newly hired VP of eng
                                        - he would explain how they just got their $25M check
                                        - he would whiteboard the engineering concept they'd pitched to get the check
                                        - he would admit that he had no idea if that was even possible
                                        - he would beg us to tell him how to make that possible so he could cash in his stock options
                                        - we would politely explain that they had somehow convinced the VCs that a teleporting unicorn that pooped popcorn and wish him luck in his next endeavor

                                        it's what got me out of doing consulting for VC startups...

Engineering manager, product manager, marketing manager... spent a lot of time immediately adjacent to VCs and startup founders (very adjacent). Part of that calling out startup BS, which really annoyed them. (also relevant i see to you, spent a bunch of time in the standards committees)

                                                              This morning, someone launched into a technical explanation of a computer component for my benefit, without even bothering to check if I might know a thing or two. Initially, I just listened, but then I had to step in to correct a slight inaccuracy - one that could have actually caused problems.
                                                              I was promptly verbally assaulted and told that ignorant people should remain silent and listen instead of talking back. I politely retorted that, in principle, they were right, but that the specific thing they'd just said was incorrect and could mislead the others listening.
                                                              Nope. They doubled down, told me to be quiet or leave, since I was so determined to "remain in my ignorance".

                                                              In the end, I just fell silent and let it go. I now pretend to believe that SSD and NVMe drives have tiny, high-speed rotating platters inside - miniature ones, of course - that spin so fast that if the power is cut, their momentum keeps them going long enough to finish writing the data, preventing any loss. It all makes perfect sense now.

The web as is can be free only when it moves people towards ideas. Having a platform for access as a browser is like having a bike but not knowing how to pedal. Communities keep the web healthy.

                                                                                    @timbray I've long preferred web apps to apps, and it is nice to see devs talking about moving off the platform - to which I have been saying, take a look at which I built to make it easy to deploy websites and web apps on the Autonomi peer-to-peer network.

                                                                                    This means no gatekeepers, server maintenance, ongoing fees, surveillance etc. It is all e2e encrypted and private.

We didn't speak up loudly enough when they disabled vpns and icloud encryption in the PRC so now they blithely wipe out apps in the USSA. China requires non-local content to pass through its Great Firewall; American law permits and protects apps such as ICEBlock.

                                                                                                                      (Although it should be noted, the ICEBlock app is not quite the great equalizer it has been advertised as being. Further, that particular app has not been specifically shown to factor into the DHS claims of doxxing.

                                                                                                                      Also, we all knew this time was coming, so make sure that those of you who have the app don't delete it, because Apple is not removing it from your phones if you have it already installed.)

Expensive places both of them.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                To spite the annoying neighbour, the rich fella donated the house to a local charity that provides temporary housing to convicts coming out of prison - requiring that it would only be used for that purpose. Apparently he liked the idea of a load of dodgy lads smoking on the balcony throwing empty tinnies over the wall.

A website that you wrote the HTML yourself is infinitely better than any template-based website you pulled from somewhere else.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  If you think it’s going to be too much work, I promise you, fiddling with a template-based solution is going to—somehow—be more work, especially to maintain as the framework, template, or font changes without you knowing.
